I’m Roya Rad, an artist and designer based in Connecticut. My painting practice moves between abstraction and impressionism, with a focus on color, light, texture, and nature, and the ways they meet and shape one another. Through layered surfaces and expressive marks, I explore the atmosphere and feeling of a place rather than trying to represent it exactly.

Art and design have been part of my life since long before college, and I have continued to work across both fields throughout my education and career. While painting is at the center of my creative practice, I also remain open to selected design projects and collaborations.

Alongside my studio practice, I am pursuing a PhD in design at NYU and previously earned a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) from the University of Connecticut. My background in art, design, and research shapes the way I observe, experiment, and develop ideas, while painting gives me a more intuitive and personal space to explore them.
